Defgrip ~> Chase Hawk

For those who know me personally, you may know that I don’t know many creative people. I mean everyone is creative in their own right, but I don’t know many photographers, producers, designers and so on. Luckily the ones I do know I have been lucky to call my friends and are people that I respect and look up too. One of these people is Harrison Boyce. He runs probably the only BMX site I look at these days and like me has his hands in lots of different aspects of the creative world.

One of his newly found talents since the rise of HDSLR cameras has been film. I’ve always admired his ability to capture moments and keep preserve every bit of emotion that happens in front of his camera. I haven’t seen many surf videos, but one thing I have always felt while watching them has been imagining the amazing feeling of being out in the water, enjoying natures beauty and so many other things tied to surfing. The surf lifestyle shines through and makes you wish you were the person on the screen. This video of Chase Hawk is no different. With an almost surf-like style, Harrison and Andrew McMullen capture a simple day in Chase Hawk’s life and makes it feel like a dream.

Press Pause Play

As a creative individual and having experienced first hand the change over the past decade with technology. I was blown away by how this film was able to materialize a lot of my ideas, opinions and a way of looking creativity with limitless possibilities but with no such ending point in sight.

Press Pause Play interviews a vast array of creative individuals with in music, publishing and film. Some having gone through the grass roots movements of their industries and other who have take the phenomenal change that has been endowed upon us with technology and made it their own to share with the world. What I love the most about this film is that it leaves you with a sense of never ending possibilities and with a discomfort that there isn’t any one way to accomplish your dreams. Yet it inspired me to push harder for what I’m passionate about and to carefully think about each step I make because in an uncertain world, you have to be able to use it as your strength and not something that deters you from you goals.

Karl Lagerfeld ~> The Tale of a Fairy

What can be said about Karl Lagerfeld that hasn’t already been said. One of the most recognized fashion designers, a photographer and now a movie maker. People like Lagerfeld inspire me. They have so many ideas and talent that not one medium is enough for them.

The Tale of a Fairy is his second film to follow Remember Now which gives you in a quick glimpse of what it’s like to be beautiful, rich, and not have a care in the world. What I mostly like about his films is the amount of quiet and sometimes silent moments. Giving you time to really take in the film, the people, and in a way almost allowing you to place yourself in the film. I look forward to more films from him and anything else that he might have a hand in.

Mr. Oizo ~> Wrong

For those of you who don’t know Mr. Oizo’s other talents, you’ll probably have no idea what I’m about to talk about….regardless it’s worth a quick watch.

Mr. Oizo or known by his real name as Quentin Dupiex has been making feature films for the past 15 plus years. If you’ve ever seen him DJ and heard his music, you know he’s quite a character. His films fallow much along the same lines. His latest movie RUBBER was quite a hit at the 2010 Sundance film festival. Well now in 2012 he’s back at it again with his new film WRONG. The teaser is short and doesn’t saw too much about the film, but regardless looks like a good, abstract and confusing film to watch.

On a side note. Check out the video on a film that never made it into production but looks like it would have been an amazing film. Not to mention being a big fan of Flat Eric, haha.

Girl & Chocolate

BMX might be my frist love, but a close second has always been Skateboarding. BMX might have influenced me to be the person that I am today, but Skateboarding has always influenced me creatively.

One of the most influential brands to me has been Girl Skateboards. They have taken their love for skateboarding and almost turned it into an art. One of the key members of the brand is Spike Jonze. He been the creative mind behind some incredible music videos and movies and has always had a hand in the brand. Specifically their videos.

With the advancement of cameras in the past couple years I’m excited to see how this video will turn out and if the trailer is any indicator of the quality of film this will be. This will be a video that I will watch over and over and have a special place up on my shelf.
